Find help with California workers’ comp

California’s Division of Workers’ Compensation provides information, workshops and local Information & Assistance offices. These are useful starting points when you need help understanding the workers’ comp process.

A general guide for California workers. For help with your own situation, contact DWC or find legal help.

Contact California DWC

The state’s Information & Assistance Unit helps people understand workers’ compensation rights, benefits and responsibilities. Its official directory lists local offices and contact details.

Call 1-800-736-7401 during weekday business hours to speak to a DWC representative. Check the state page for current availability and local office information before traveling.

Free DWC workshops

DWC offers injured worker workshops and public educational materials. Its outreach page links to workshop information and the injured worker guidebook. Check the official schedule for how to attend.

Questions to ask

  • What part of the process am I trying to understand?
  • Which letter or form is confusing me?
  • Is there a date in the document that I need to ask about?
  • Who have I already contacted, and what did they say?

Have the relevant letters and forms with you when you call. Our document checklist can help you prepare.

Finding an attorney

Consider a qualified California workers’ compensation attorney if you need advice about your circumstances or representation in a dispute. Ask about their experience, fees, and what they would do for you.
